Staying a little outside the centre pays off here: great value, with the city still within easy reach. Glass towers and wide avenues give the Zuidas a sleek, modern edge, while the leafy streets of Oud-Zuid and Beatrixpark are never far away. The Irenestraat tram stop is just outside, Amsterdam Zuid station is about five minutes on foot, and Museumplein and the canals are around 20 minutes away.

As at every citizenM, the public spaces are designed as living rooms. Bright colours, modern furniture, art and books make them comfortable places to work, meet or relax.

Rooms are compact but cleverly arranged around an extra-large king-size bed, with floor-to-ceiling windows that bring in plenty of light. Each has a rain shower, blackout blinds, Chromecast and a tablet that controls the lighting, temperature and blinds.

canteenM is open all day for breakfast, barista coffee and casual meals, and becomes a relaxed bar in the evening.
