Sib Kao

Sib Kao is on Sukhumvit Soi 19, right in the middle of Asok. Terminal 21, Asok BTS and Sukhumvit MRT are a few minutes' walk away, and the bars, cafés and massage shops of Sukhumvit are on the doorstep. From here, Siam, Silom, and the river are all an easy train ride away.

Sib Kao is the number 19, the soi the hotel sits on, and it also means "ten steps", a nod to how close everything is. The Thai name is deliberate, too. The hotel is committed to preserving the building's story and the local culture around it, so it feels part of the neighbourhood rather than a hotel dropped into it.

Rooms are compact but well thought out, with a 10-inch pocket-spring mattress, a choice of soft or firm pillows, a 40-inch smart TV with free Netflix and a rain shower. Corner rooms add a view of the street below.

No restaurant is on site, and you won't need one. Terminal 21's food court, Soi Cowboy's bars and dozens of street-food stalls and cafés are all within a few minutes' walk.
